what were the gold rushes of the 20th century?
what MIGHT they be in the 21st century?
The “Gold Rushes” of the 20th century could have been better. Not many people struck it rich and lots of land was destroyed.
The gold rushes of the 20th Century are the Great Mongolian Gold Rush. This Gold Rush took place in Mongolia in the year 2001. The next one is the Apuí Gold Rush. This Gold Rush took place in Apuí, Amazonas, Brazil in the year 2006. About 500,000 miners are still to this day thought to work in the Amazon’s “garimpos,” which is a gold mine. The next one is the Peruvian Amazon Gold Rush. This is in the region of Madre de Dios in the year of 2009.

The Great Mongolian Gold Rush took place in 2001. About 100,000 Mongolians quit their jobs and became miners. Before they quit most of them were herders. Most miners were mining without a mining licence which is illegal. The miners that were mining illegally were called “ninja miners”. They were called ninja miners because they would go the rivers with their pan strapped to their back. Though they were mining illegally the government turned a blind eye to them because they were pulling in 20% more gold than the formal mining companies were.
The Apuí Gold Rush took place in 2006. The towns population blew up when a math teacher said that Miners were pulling up thousands of dollars in the area. People started to go to the place called “Eldorado de Juma" where gold had been first discovered. The population increased by the day. People were saying they had discovered 1.5 tons of gold in the river. Everybody was quitting their jobs to dig for gold.
The Peruvian Amazon Gold Rush took place in 2009. Little amounts of gold were found here. Men were at high risk because they chose to use a water jet for mining. Miners were cutting down trees that could have been 1,200 years old. Miners didn’t care about the rainforest, they just kept pushing on into the rainforest. Many people went to look for gold, but instead came back in a casket or with nothing. Not much gold was found. The death amount was higher than the amount of gold that came from this gold rush.
In the 21st century I think that there will be lots of gold rushes. I think this because in 21st century, we will have better technology that can scan and find the gold. I know there is lots of gold still left in the world because there are still places in which gold hasn't been discovered. There will be many more gold rushes, it just takes time for the gold to be found.
The Gold Rushes of the 20th century were not good for people or for the land. I hope that in the 21st century there will be a way to get gold without hurting people or the land.
